Life studies

A buddy of mine keeps a mean workshop. Once a week he opens his doors for life drawing sessions in the evening and here is a page from a recent one.

Portrait of the leading ladies

Here is the sketch underlay, pretty simple. Enough to make the right changes along the way

And the first color pass. My favorite part of the process, finding and laying in all those big blotches of color before working on the finer details.

stage fright

Incredibly after four years of silence, Wlodyslaw Szpilman playes this.

Wilhelm Hosenfeld had helped another Jew, Leon Warm, providing him with a false identity and a job at a sports stadium in Warsaw.

Here are a couple of sketch pages from a crit day at school I did with a colored pencil, never thought they would be my weapon of choice. Got some advice from an inspiring artist on line weight early on: just let the line breathe. Concise advice, that came as a reaction to a rough five minute life drawing. Don't mean to sound simple but it haunted me, as simple as it was it made me re-evaluate my drawing technique. Ever since its been a journey towards improving and it feels like its going somewhere. Line drawings turned into the habit I always sought out for. They came back out from hiding in that ten year old's doodle binder and now here they are again... breathing... lines...they hyperventilate sometimes.
